The Oregon Shakespeare festival is located in Ashland. This world renowned and award winning festival began as an outdoor festival in 1935 and currently has a season that is open from February to October each year. From May to September, plays are presented in the open air Elizabethan Theater. Every year over 100,000 visitors come to Ashland to attend one or more of the plays. Annually, the festival sells more tickets than any other theater in America. Visitors may choose to attend both Shakespeare and non-Shakespeare plays.

Located adjacent to the Shakespeare festival is Ashland’s Lithia Park. Lithia Park is a 100-acre park that begins at The Plaza and follows Lithia Creek into Mount Ashland’s foothills. Along the creek are two ponds, a Japanese Garden, a band shell, lush green lawn areas for your enjoyment and many miles of hiking trails through the forests. While at Lithia Park, be sure to taste the Lithia water from the fountain in The Plaza or at a fountain near the band shell. Lithia water is slightly effervescent and has a strong mineral content.
